Memory Piece

This is my work on memory, finally finished and hung, for my second year project 1 assessment for my BA Hons Fine Art Course. Exhibition to follow.

The piece is about memories i have from my mother's death when i was a young child. Consists of fingerpaintings and stiched lettering.

I will follow this post with close up's of the paintings and stitch work.

Frida Kahlo

I have always been a fan of Frida Kahlo's paintings and i was recommended this film by a friend. It is fantastic, it really makes her paintings more real and you understand the trauma's she under went throughout her life alot better.
Even if you are not a fan of art or are not aware of who Kahlo is it is such a great film in itself that i believe you would still enjoy it. It's quite emotional and i must admit i did cry, more than once!

Murmur Project

Back at Uni now and i plan to post alot more and here's the first of them :) I am currently reading Contemporary Art and Memory by Joan Gibbons and it mentions the Murmur project, that began in Toronto, but my favourite is Edinborough.

The project envolves walking around the town and discovering numbers to phone, when you phone the number you are then told a memory about where you currently are. It's almost a more personal tour guide of the town as some are historical and others just quirky. I found it an interesting approach to memories within places and how to portray it to others. Here's the link to the website where it goes into more detail and you are able to listen to the memories from each town.
